Artist Bio

JoAnne Dumas began her passion for art as a child by drawing in chalk on the city streets of New York. While in elementary school she was fascinated by the illustrations in picture books. In one such book she noted that the artist’s biography mentioned that she studied at Pratt Institute and this became a dream that eventually came true.

For more than 30 years JoAnne taught high school art in New York City and on Long Island while doing artwork on the side. As her family grew up she became able to pursue her own work more seriously. Having taught Photoshop and using early digital cameras as a yearbook moderator, she became interested in digital photography ten years ago.

Living on beautiful Long Island, the digital camera became her likely accompaniment during outdoor activities like kayaking, hiking, biking and sailing. JoAnne especially enjoys catching Long Island light at the beginning and the end of the day.

During the past six years JoAnne has participated in several shows a year and has had two one-person-shows. JoAnne makes her artwork to be seen, shared and hopefully enjoyed by others.
