Artist Statement
I have always been delighted by shapes, tones and textures and spent my childhood capturing these in pencil with a great deal of detail. As I got older I was introduced to various color mediums and finally to oil and acrylic paints in college. When I painted I added color to the shapes, tones and textures with the same detail as my drawings. As you might imagine my paintings were super-realistic.
The advent of the first digital cameras meant that I could capture all the details I loved as well as process and print the images in my own "digital darkroom" so this was a natural outcome for me. The subjects for my digital images are primarily drawn from natural and man-made objects. I tend to focus on our environment and things from the past. While capturing an image I often wonder what will we leave for others to discover.
I delight in capturing the fleeting drama that light often creates on people and places, while also looking for visual details that often go unnoticed in our busy lives. The closer I get to my subjects the more I see, and hopefully by capturing this I can also engage the viewer in the world of shapes, tones, textures and detail.
